The Co-op has put its funeral home in Chorlton up for sale.
The former Gaumont and Savoy cinema is a well-known fixture in Chorlton centre.
Property agents Savills describes the site as "a prime development opportunity", and claims that "Our Clients have gathered positive pre-application feedback for the site, supporting redevelopment for a predominantly residential scheme."
However, when we asked a question at the Co-op AGM, chief executive Steve Murrells made it clear that he thought the Co-op "should think long and hard" about what should happen at the site. Steve referred to the Co-op's new 'Co-operate 2022" drive to protect community spaces.
Now we are organising a public meeting on 4 July where Simon Goodier, head of property services at the Co-op will be joined by Councillor Eve Holt and Chris Peackock from the Chorlton Community Land Trust to discuss what should happen next.
Click on the video below to see our question on this matter at the Co-op 2019 AGM and the response from Chief Executive Steve Murrells.
